It’s time to create your vision for a brighter future. Coming back to who you really are and what really matters to you right now as well as putting self-care at the top, not the bottom, of your to-do list.
You deserve to lead a happy, fulfilled life. This short visualisation exercise is the first step towards that. It’s the first step to moving towards greater satisfaction in your work, life and career.
Follow along with the visualisation in the video below – or alternatively, you'll find a transcript of the exercise below the video, which you might want to ask a friend to read to you.
Your job during this exercise is to follow my instructions and allow your mind free reign. Don’t be concerned whether it is possible or how you would make it happen, that’s not the point. Don’t censor or judge any thoughts or images that come to mind. Give yourself permission to see what comes.
Have a pen and paper at hand to use at the end. Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. Sit comfortably and allow yourself to be supported by the chair. When you’re ready to begin, press play and close your eyes.
Take four deep slow breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Now imagine yourself in your ideal future situation - if it helps imagine it as a painting or a scene from a movie.
In this situation things are exactly as you desire. You feel a deep satisfaction with your day to day life.
Imagine a typical day:
Where are you?
What is the environment you’re in?
What are you doing?
What is your schedule?
Who else is there?
What do you see?
What do you hear?
What do you feel?
What do you smell?
What do you taste?
How are you feeling about where you are and what you’re doing?
What are you thinking about your life at this moment?
Take a few more moments to savour the experience, whatever it is for you.
Then get ready to come back to the present. Feel the chair under you. Hear the sounds in the room. When you are ready open your eyes.
I trust that was enjoyable? Maybe you’re a bit reluctant to come back, don’t worry, it’s completely within your power to make your vision of your future a reality.
While it’s fresh in your mind capture your vision in words or pictures, in as much detail as you can. Write it in the present tense.
